October 2026: The Month Your Heart Looks Back
- October 1, 2026
- Category: Monthly Forecasts
Come and sit with me for a moment, my loves. In September we rebuilt. We started small things, we brought the scales back to even, and at the Aries Full Moon we finally admitted what we want. October does something different. On October 3, Venus — the planet of love, beauty, and money — turns retrograde, and she walks backwards for the whole month. Then on October 24, Mercury turns around and joins her. Two of the most personal planets in the sky, looking back at the same time. This is not a month for big new promises. It is a month for second conversations, old feelings, and honest review. Nothing is going wrong. Something is being looked at again, more carefully this time. Let me walk you through it, slowly and simply.
The Shape of October 2026
October opens with a sharp few days, softens into a kind and steady middle, and then goes very deep at the end.
The first days of the month bring tension and strong wills. The middle of the month, around October 15 and 16, gives us the kindest days of the whole season. Then, from October 23, everything turns inward: Scorpio season begins, the Sun meets Venus at the very heart of her retrograde, Mercury turns back, and a Full Moon in Taurus asks us what we are holding too tightly. Review, rebalance, release. That is the whole month in three words.
Sharp Words and Strong Wills (Mercury Square Mars and Pluto, October 2–3; Mars Opposite Pluto, October 3)
The month begins with heat. On October 2 and 3, Mercury in Scorpio squares both Mars in Leo and Pluto in Aquarius, and on October 3 Mars stands exactly opposite Pluto.
Mars is our will. Pluto is power. When they face each other, people dig in. You may feel pushed, or you may notice that you are the one pushing. Arguments can start fast and go deeper than they need to, and words can come out sharper than you mean them. So my advice for these first days is simple: do not try to win. Try to understand what the fight is really about — it is almost never about the dishes. Mars in Leo rules the heart and the back, and anger has a way of sitting in the chest. If you feel it rising, walk it out before you talk it out.
Venus Retrograde in Scorpio, October 3
On October 3, Venus stations retrograde at 8°29′ Scorpio. She will walk backwards until November 13, slipping back into Libra on the way.

Venus retrograde happens about once every year and a half, and every time it brings the past back to our door. Old loves may write to you. Old feelings may wake up. Questions you thought were finished — what do I deserve, what am I worth, why do I keep choosing this — come back for a second look. In Scorpio, this goes very deep. This is about trust, jealousy, loyalty, intimacy, and what we share with another person, including money.
If someone from your past returns, do not panic and do not rush. Ask yourself one honest question: has something really changed, or am I only lonely? Both answers are allowed. Just make sure you know which one is true. And if you can wait, wait — on big luxury purchases, on dramatic changes to your appearance, and on brand-new commitments made in a hurry. Venus retrograde is a beautiful time to repair, to forgive, and to remember. It is not the best time to begin.
On October 7, Mercury meets Venus at 8° Scorpio. This is one of the loveliest days of the month for a real heart-to-heart. If there is something you have never said to someone you love, this is the day to say it gently.
Heavy Shoulders (Sun Opposite Saturn, October 4)
On October 4, the Sun in Libra stands opposite Saturn, which is moving backwards in Aries.
You may feel tired, heavy, or a little alone for a day or two. Saturn shows us where we are carrying too much, and with the Sun in Libra, the question is usually about other people: who are you carrying, and who is carrying you? Saturn does not mean bad. Saturn means serious. Take this as a quiet invitation to look at your responsibilities honestly and set one of them down. Aries rules the head and the jaw, so if tension headaches come, rest your head and rest your mind. Not everything has to be solved this week.
New Moon in Libra, October 10
The New Moon in Libra arrives on October 10 at 17°22′ Libra — a new beginning for partnership, fairness, and peace.
Here is the special thing about this New Moon: Libra is ruled by Venus, and Venus is retrograde. So this is not really a New Moon for brand-new love. It is a New Moon for renewing the relationships you already have. Repair a friendship. Renegotiate an agreement that stopped being fair. Start a new, kinder habit with your partner. Plant seeds that make what you already have more balanced.
On the same day, Venus squares Mars. What the heart wants and what our pride wants may pull in two directions. Let the heart lead, just this once. Libra rules the kidneys, the lower back, and the skin — so drink your water, stand up often, and treat your skin kindly as the weather changes.
The Kindest Days of the Month (Sun Sextile Jupiter, October 15; Mars Trine Saturn, October 16)
In the middle of the month the sky softens. On October 15 the Sun makes a sweet sextile to Jupiter in Leo, and on October 16 Mars makes a steady trine to Saturn.

If you have something to ask for, ask now. Send the application, make the pitch, share your work, call the person who can help you. Jupiter opens doors, and the Sun gives you the confidence to walk through them. Then Mars and Saturn working together give you something even more precious: staying power. Effort made on these days lasts. This is a wonderful moment to start a routine you want to keep — a training plan, a study plan, a savings plan. Fire and discipline, holding hands.
Power Moves Forward Again (Pluto Direct in Aquarius, October 15)
Around October 15, after five months moving backwards, Pluto turns direct at 3° Aquarius.
While Pluto was retrograde, the deep changes in your life were happening underground — in your thoughts, your fears, your private decisions. Now they start to show on the outside. In Aquarius, Pluto works through groups, communities, friendships, and technology. You may notice that the people you belong with are changing, and that you are becoming braver about the future you want to be part of. Aquarius rules the circulation, the calves, and the ankles, so keep your legs moving, my loves, especially on long days of sitting.
The Second Test (Venus Square Pluto, October 20)
On October 20, Venus — still walking backwards — squares Pluto at 3° Scorpio and 3° Aquarius. She first made this square on September 15, and she will make it one last time on December 9.
So whatever came up for you in love around mid-September is coming back now for its second round. This is the transit of jealousy, control, and obsession — and also of deep, honest intimacy. Watch where love starts to feel like holding on too tightly. Watch where you are giving away your power to keep someone close. The question here is not “how do I keep this?” The question is “what is mine to keep, and what is mine to release?” You do not have to answer it today. You have until December.
Scorpio Season and the Heart of the Retrograde (Sun into Scorpio, October 23; Sun Meets Venus, October 24)
On October 23 the Sun enters Scorpio, and in the early hours of October 24 it meets retrograde Venus at 0°45′ Scorpio.
This meeting is the heart of the whole Venus retrograde. Astronomers call it the inferior conjunction: Venus passes between us and the Sun, disappears from the evening sky, and a short time later she rises again before dawn as the Morning Star. The ancients saw this as Venus dying and being reborn — and they were not wrong. A whole new Venus cycle, about nineteen months long, begins here.
So pay attention to what you understand about love and about your own worth around October 24. Write it down. Something you finally see clearly in these days will guide your heart for years. Then, on October 25, Venus slips back into Libra, where she will turn direct in November. Scorpio rules the reproductive and eliminative systems — the body’s way of letting go. Let your body rest and release too.
Mercury Retrograde in Scorpio, October 24
On October 24, Mercury stations retrograde at 20°58′ Scorpio. It turns direct on November 13 — the very same day Venus does.
Now both love and the mind are looking back. Mercury retrograde in Scorpio brings secrets to the surface, old conversations back to the table, and information we missed the first time. Read contracts twice. Back up your phone. Double-check messages before you send them, especially the emotional ones. And be patient with delays — they are often giving you time you did not know you needed.
This is also, honestly, one of the best retrogrades of the year for inner work. Scorpio wants the truth under the truth. Journaling, therapy, and hypnotherapy are all beautiful here, because what is hidden is already rising on its own. You only have to listen.
Full Moon in Taurus, October 26
The Full Moon in Taurus rises on October 26 at 2°46′ Taurus — the Hunter’s Moon — opposite the Sun in Scorpio, with both of them squaring Pluto in Aquarius.

Taurus is about what we own, what we value, and what makes us feel safe. Scorpio is about what we share and what we must surrender. With Pluto pressing on both, this Full Moon shows you exactly where you are holding on too tightly — to money, to a person, to a routine, to an old idea of security. Something may come to an ending or a turning point now. Let it. What is truly yours will not leave when you open your hand.
Taurus rules the throat and the neck. If something is stuck in your throat — a word, a feeling, a truth — this is the Moon to finally say it. And with autumn here, keep your neck warm, my loves.
One Last Spark (Mercury Square Mars, October 30)
On October 30, retrograde Mercury squares Mars again, this time at 18° Scorpio and 18° Leo.
The month ends with the same sharp energy it started with, but now it is about old anger rather than new. An argument from the past may want to start again. Before you answer, pause and breathe. Is this about today, or about something that happened months ago? Take care on the road and in the kitchen too — Mars square Mercury makes us rush, and rushing is where small accidents happen.
So, How Do You Use This Month?
October asks you to look back with love, not with regret.
Do not fight to win in the first days. Let Venus bring the past back to you, and look at it with fresh eyes. Put down one responsibility that is not yours. Renew the relationships you already have at the Libra New Moon. Ask for what you want in the kind middle of the month. Write down what you understand at the Sun–Venus meeting. Let Mercury retrograde show you what was hidden. And at the Taurus Full Moon, open your hand.
Take care of your body while you do all this deep work: your heart and back, your kidneys and skin, your throat and neck. Drink your water. Rest your head. Walk out your anger before you speak it.
And if you want to know exactly where Venus is walking backwards in your own birth chart — which house, which planets she touches, which old story she is asking you to finish — you can learn to read it yourself in our Basic Astrology course, or book a personal natal chart reading and we will trace her path together.
